Homemade Sports Drink

Are you a big Sports Drink fan?  You can make an inexpensive rehydration drink at home.  Buying Gatorade and Powerade can really add up.  Here’s a recipe for a sports drink rehydration substitute that is super cheap and you know what you’re putting into your body.

Here’s the recipe for a 2 quart packet:

4 tablespoons

1 teaspoon

1 teaspoon

1/2 teaspoon

Measure all ingredients precisely. Small variations can make the drink less effective or even harmful. Don’t overload on this stuff. This recipe makes enough powder for 2 quarts of water, make sure you dilute it properly, too much and you will feel ill. If anything, on a hot day, mix this at 50% strength, (1 Homemade Sports Drink recipe + 4 quarts of water) so you’re drinking more water. If you’re drinking a lot of water, you can over load. You need the salts in your system to process the water properly. Stay hydrated–but keep a little salt in your system, too!

Hey John, I don’t know why but all I see on the ingredients list is measurements like 4 Tablespoons or 1 teaspoon. I don’t see any actual ingredients such as sugar or salt or ? My son works on a ranch all summer in the Roswell NM heat and he goes thru a lot of gatorade. But I know he would rather drink a home made version if he could. Thanks.
